At the 3GSM World Congress held in Barcelona in February, initiatives were taken to promote this upcoming trend. From the first ever premiers of short Bollywood movies on cell phones to unveiling movies made for cell phones, the event set the bugle for the emergence of cell phones as the fourth screen.

When the world’s largest entertainment industry begins taking serious business. As a part of Bollywood mobile initiative, two short films, zahir and Matrimony, Directed by sanjay Gupta of Kaante and zinda fame were prenmiered at the event. The movies are a part of ‘Dus Kahaniyaan’, a compilation of 10 short films. The initiative is promoted by Roam ware-global flaming and value-added solutions provider, Hungama-the developers, aggregators and publishers ofo Indian entertainment and Bollywood content and the GSM Association. “Next generation home theatres will be the size ofo a cellphone,” said Neeraj Roy, CEO, Hungama Mobile.

Another mention worthy initiative was the tken by the Sundance Institute. Founded by Robert Redford, the institute supports and promotes artists and filmmakers from across the world.

O2’s flame to fame

O2 showcased its day flame at the event. Its wide 3.6 inch VGA display caught our eye at once. Knowing that the device has been equipped with an NVIDIA Go force chip, we expected it to have a superior graphics quality. And we were not disappointed after we switched it on for a first hand experience. The graphics are meme rising and the Flame would be a boon for mobile gaming enthusiasts (thanks to the large display). The handheld supports TV out support as well and we are sure people wouldn’t mind watching TV and movies on the wide screen.

Other features include 3G support, extendable memory up to 2GB and a 2 megapixel camera. Apart from the flame, the Xda Atom Life was also put up on display at the exposition.

There was no way Research in Motion could have escaped the race for being slim. At the 3GSM World Congress, they launched what they are claiming to be their slimmest Smartphone-the BlackBerry 8800. The quad-band device is slim only in terms of the literal width. It packs in a wide array of features like GPA (including BlackBerry maps), noise cancellation, speaker and independent voice recognition for voice activated dialing. Other features include multimedia support for voice and data applications like e-mail and text messaging.

The device has a QVGA display along with a built-in light sensing technology that automatically adjusts the brightness. The famous trackball navigation brings with it the ease of navigation.

Microsystems

Microelectronics has been around for some time now. On the drawing boards are experiments to put sensors and actuators on the same chip. Novel sensors and actuators will enable whole new application domains that are not possible based on the conventional technology solutions.

Microsystems and nanotechnology are the next frontiers. It is very important for India to establish a leadership role in this emerging area. A National Programme on Micro and Smart Systems will specifically look at three application areas – automobile, aerospace and bio-sensors.

“At the micro level, physics of the material will not change,” said Dr Atre. However, at the nano level the physics changes. As you are assembling nano devices atom by atom, simple things like color change. Gold, for instance will have a different color at the nano level. Physical properties will also change.

Chemical Sensors

Nanotechnology can even be used to combat terrorism. Chips with chemical sensors can be deployed at any place and which will detect the small vapour given out by explosives. It works on a principle called EGFET (Extended Gate Field Effect Transistor). A transistor in a chip is exposed to some chemicals. Depending on how the chemicals behave at the gate of the transistor, the current through the transistor changes thus enabling a compact chemical detector.

The transistor gate is functionalised with an appropriate sensor film that is exposed to the environment and it can then detect the corresponding target materials like RDX.

Samsung’s Ultra Edition I series devices that were launched in India in 2006, took the market by a storm. The devices defied the 10mm benchmark of cell phones. For the uninitiated, the 10mm bench meant that it was not possible to include many features in a waistline as thin as 10mm. Beaming with pride at the success of I its Ultra Edition I series, Samsung showcased of its Ultra Edition ill series at the exposition. Comprising four handsets-SGHU600 and SGH U700 (sliders), SGH U300 (a clamshell) and the SGH U100 (a candy bar the series has it all. With a waistline of 5.9mm, the Samsung U100 is the kind of features that it has. The tri-band EDGE enabled device sports a 3.2 megapixel camera.

Further to Samsung’s partnership with Yahoo! The handset also packs in the Yahoo’s search engine and its instant messenger. Other features like uGo, uMenu, utrack and A2DP profile for Bluetooth are also packed in the slim form factor.

Beyond Music

Though the N918GB has been developed keeping music as the core element, the telephony aspect hasn’t been ignored. It is a 3G device and also boasts of Wi-Fi connectivity, which is rarely provided on a music phone. The 2 megapixel camera is decent though we have seen better onboard cameras. The battery backup is impressive and it managed to see us through two days with around two hours of internet browsing and almost four hours of music playback.

However, keeping the Bluetooth turned on and using a pair of stereo Bluetooth turned headsets to listen to music cuts the backup by half, which is understandable.

The N91 8GB would score over Sony Ericsson’s W950i in terms of its internal memory and onboard camera.

R&D in energy is critical to realise this ambitious target and thus meet development goals. Given the difficulties in procuring fossil fuel supplies, there is a need to direct R&D to more efficient way of distribution and consumption, development of substitutes to fossil fuels and adopting commercial low carbon high-efficiency technologies that extract and use coal, our most abundant primary resource.

Apart from coal, there is need for a mission on bio-energy that would include bio-diesel from non-edible oils such as Jatropha and Karanj. On the other side, storage technology is important for using intermittent sources of power and for the automotive sector.

India’s theoretical solar power potential (600TWA) is several folds above its current total energy consumption. However, much needs to be done to develop this into cheap energy. The impediment here is high cost. There are interesting developments that could lead to big gains in thin films solar cells with the potential for nearly 45 percent sunlight-to-electricity conversion efficiency appears feasible through this route.

The overall efficiency of energy consumed is lost or wasted in the process of conversion from raw materials such as coal to the final energy services. In India, currently the total installed power generation capacity is 143,311 MW, derived as thermal power from coal, gas and oil(64.6 percent), hydro power (24.7percent) and as renewable energy (7.4percent). Nuclear energy component is still rather low (2.9 percent). To meet energy needs till 2032, at the very least, India needs to increase primary energy supply 3 to 4 times and electricity generation capacity/supply by 5 to 6 times of current levels. By 2032, power generation capacity must increase to nearly 800,000 MW from the current capacity of around 160,000MW.

Third Day At Work

I started from my home at 7.50 a.m. But unfortunately I came 10 mins late to the office due to some heavy traffic in my area. Even though I started early from my home I could not able to reach the office on time. Then I entered my training room at 8.55 am. I asked excuse from my communication trainer that I would never come late again. I collected the assignments from all the guys and submitted it to my communication trainer Mark. Mark explained about the Australian process and how to communicate with Aussie People. Then he explained the life style of Aussie people, how they spend money for travelling purposes and all. He wanted everyone to learn more about the australian culture. So he gave nearly 60 questions and asked us to find the answers by surfing the internet. We decided to share 5 questions each so that we can easily find the exact answers.

After the break session, we got settled in our places. Mark asked everyone to write 100 words within a minute (No names and places). And he said that he is going to give Rs.100 to the one who completes the work first. Then we played 7-up game to get some relaxation. Mark asked everyone to write an essay with the 100 words that they have written. It was the funny part of the training session. We all created our own stories and linked the 100 words in it. At the end of third day training, we all learned some information about Australian culture and their life style. The third day training was very useful and informative.

Second day at training

In the second day, I reached office exactly at 8.45 in the morning. In the previous day mark asked everyone to submit the assignment by 8.45a.m. Mark assigned me as an assignment incharge. I collected the assignments from all the guys. But one fellow submitted a little bit later by 9’o’clock. So I was fined 100 bucks because if any one fails to submit it on time then I will be fined 100 bucks. Mark asked everyone to prepare a product and sell the product. We have given a time limit of maximum 20 minutes. Everyone prepared their own script for the product they chose. I took web hosting as my product, I explained all the details about web hosting, benefits of web hosting and finally answered the queries of customers (other guys). Then we played some games for relaxation. We got break at 11’o’clock. We just moved to a tea shop and had some tea. After the break session, Mark asked everyone to write the some well known words in a minute. Then he explained how to attract customers with voice modulation, aggressiveness, 1 sec pause and positive thinking. He created two teams among us and each each should develop the own product with the whole team taking part in it. We developed a product called ‘UID’ (Universal Identity). I took technical part of the product which we have developed.

First day at work

I want to share my experience which I had in my first day of training. I came to office at 8 a.m. The security asked me to wait in the training room. So I was waiting in the training room for nearly half an hour. In the meantime, I have discussed many issues with my friends regarding the product sales and how we are going to survive in the company. Then my communication trainer (Mark) entered the training room. He asked everyone to introduce ourselves and asked rest of the guys to shoot questions rapidly. As a fresher in bpo industry, I was scared thinking about how the training will go on like that. Initially Mark chatted with us about faith in god and went thru many topics for checking our communication skills. He interacted with everyone to know about what they are upto. After a while, Mark informed us about the timings of the training session. He wanted everyone to wear tie from the next day, but some of the guys refused it. And then he taught how to pronounce some words and asked us to practice it regularly in the morning. He also asked us to watch Australian news network channel for atleast two hours daily and he wanted us to make it as a daily habit. The first day of my class totally went on chatting itself.

Zebra Unknown Facts

Zebras actually belong to the family of horses. Their habitats are grasslands, arid lands and the savannahs. Their food is mainly grass but they also consume small leaves,herbs,buds and twigs. A Zebra’s black and white stripes are meant to help camouflage the animals in its terrain. The stripes are narrow at the face and neck and broadened across the chest area. It has a long hairy tail. Each Zebra has a unique stripe pattern. There are different types of Zebra-the common Zebra and the Grevy’s Zebra being the most well known. It is about 8-feet long and weighs about 275Kg! Two races of the common zebra exist and they vary slightly in their appearance and habitat. In southern Kenya the common zebras have a faint dark stripe in the centre of each white stripe while those in the north have pure white stripes. The bright stripes are not as effective camouflage as the dull ones! The gravy’s zebra is rarer than the common zebra and can be found only in the northern part of Kenya or in Uganda. It can be recognized by its narrower stripes and almost gray color also has a hairy mane across the neck and back. It is a bigger species and weighs about 350kg!!!!

Airways Apologizes

9 Muslim people were refused to continue their travel in the Air Tran Airways from midway as one of them were alleged of discussing about issues that were a threat to security of fellow travellers. One among the Muslim family was discussing about the safest place in the plane to sit. This conversation was misunderstood by the neighbor travellers and was escalated to the pilot. Later those Muslim members were kicked off from the plane in the midway and were interrogated by the FBI agents for the conversation they had in the plane. As a result of the FBI interview, they were proved of no fault. It was just a misunderstanding which had caused a serious issue this way.

Though the Airways justify that they have acted like this to ensure complete security to their customers, it’s a bitter fact that these Muslim people were racially discriminated from the other travellers. Because they had a traditional look with beards and religious dresses, they were forced to undergo the unnecessary interview by the FBI agents. I feel this act of Air Tran is definitely condemnable. The Air Tran now apologizes for the inconvenience caused by them to the Muslim family. Though the airways are now ready to compensate for their travel expenses, the Muslim family is not ready to accept the explanation. Its high time that the Airways should review its policies and stop causing irrelevant disputes in the name of security. A mountain was made out of the mole!!

The little boy looked up at me and said: ‘I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.’ Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He then told me ‘I want mommy to take my picture with her so my sister won’t forget me.’ ‘I love my mommy and I wish she doesn’t have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.’ Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly. I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. ‘Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll?” ‘OK’ he said, ‘I hope I do have enough.’ I added some of my money to his with out him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money. The little boy said: ‘Thank you God for giving me enough money!’ Then he looked at me and added, ‘I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mommy could give It to my sister. He heard me!” ‘I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn’t dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose. My mommy loves white roses.’

I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started. I couldn’t get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local news paper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine, because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy? Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the news paper that the young woman had passed away.. I couldn’t stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was exposed for people to see and make last wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed for ever. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him.

How to make Banana halwa recipe

Ingredients:
5 ripe bananas
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp cardamom
3 tsp ghee
Cashews for garnishing

Method:
Mash the bananas using a fork or knife. It does not matter if there are small amounts of banana lumps. This will get cooked eventually.
Now take a heavy bottom pan. Heat it to medium and add little ghee and add the mashed bananas to this heated pan. At this stage, stir the mixture at regular intervals making sure that it does not get burnt at the bottom.

After about 15 minutes or so add the sugar and little ghee. Continue stirring it till it turns dark brown and it starts leaving the bottom of the pan.
After about 35 minutes or so it forms a combined mass with rich brown color.
Reduce the flame and add the cardamom powder. Be careful as the mixture sticks to the bottom.
· Grease a plate with little oil and keep aside. Pour the mixture into this plate, level it and allow it to cool. When its almost cool cut into desired shapes.

Australian government has planned to ban all harmful websites that aaects children.

'cyber-safety plan', spearheaded by Australia's Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy Stephen Conroy, will cost around AUS$126m (£55m) and will be implemented over a period of four years.

However, opinion is sharply divided about how well the system will work, according to Radio New Zealand's Technology commentator Simon Morton who looked into the issue for the BBC World Service's Digital Planet programme.

Many from the internet industry and freedom of speech groups fear that if the filtering system is implemented, then other illegal content as well as material the government deems inappropriate could be added and blocked in the future.

Pourtsmouth researcher has identified a new flying reptile species ,new type of pterosaur.It would have flown in the skies above Brazil 115 million years ago. Mark Witton estimated that the pterosaur had a wingspan of 16.4ft (5m) and would have been more than 39in (1m) tall at the shoulder.

The partial skull fossil, found in Brazil, is the first example of a chaoyangopteridae, a group of toothless pterosaurs, to be found outside China.

All encodes use the h264 (x264) codec which has a far better compression rate than XviD/DivX, therefore allows for a better quality at smaller file sizes. We use the MatRoskA (.mkv) container as the most popular for HD content nowdays.

Whats New?
Unlike V1/V2 encoders we now have 50mb intervals if needed as some formats require 350mb, 450mb etc. We also encode under strict standards for the m-x264 releases which allows for greater quality in more appropriate sizes.
We have also added MegaShares uploads to alot of the newer movies to allow a wider audience.
